Salomon Quest Review

Fort William's clothing manager Helen recently had to make the enormous decision of which walking boots to buy next, but after testing a pair of Salomon Quests in the Dolomites, knew which ones to settle on...

I needed to replace my old faithful walking boots, but after having them for a long time, they had become like slippers, like part of me. Therefore choosing what to replace them with was difficult.

I had my eye on the Women’s Salomon Quest walking boots for a little while, and I was fortunate enough to be able to test a pair on a recent trip to the Italian Dolomites.

After selling several pairs of these boots I knew that the fit around the foot is said to be ‘like a hug’, and after several days walking, via ferrata and scrambling in the mountains, I can honestly say that these boots are incredibly comfortable. I was happy to be putting them on every morning to use in the mountains. They became part of my adventure,  enabling me to do the things I wanted to without a second thought.

The nubuck and textile construction gives excellent stability whilst still being an 'out the box' boot. Additional padding around the ankle and on the gusseted tongue provides reliable ankle support. Backed up by the GORE-TEX lining means this construction provides an excellent balance of breathability and waterproofing.

The Quest have Salomon's  lightweight Contagrip sole which is a cleverly engineered combination of compounds placed in specific areas of the sole: i.e heavy wear areas have high density rubber for longevity and low wear areas have low density for flexibility and traction. This means that the boot can perform on all terrain come rain or shine.

I can honestly say the boots were great throughout my trip. I loved wearing them. They were comfortable, supportive and for all the walking I did they were ...near perfect!
