Endless powder, huge airs and big slashes. Sound like your type of ski film? Every good backcountry movie has all of the above and showcases athletes taming, if only temporarily, some of the highest mountains and steepest faces.

We've pulled together 6 of our favourite backcountry films.

Solving For Z | A Calculus Of Risk


Solving for Z delves into IFMGA guide and father Zahan Billimoria's relationship with the highs and lows of life in the high-consequence world of big mountain skiing. This film gives a fascinating insight into the balance elite athletes take between risk and reward.



Charge 2

Salomon TV

Five top freeskiers are joined by a world champion drone pilot and sent off for one week’s cat skiing in British Columbia, Canada. They have just one mission and that is to charge as hard as they can. With big drops, pillow lines and powder turns, this 4-minute film is guaranteed to get you hyped for winter and wanting to save up for some cat skiing time.



K2: The Impossible Descent

When Red Bull makes a film, you know is going to be epic. Following Polish skier Andrzej Bargiel’s 2018 expedition to Pakistan the feature film covers his climb of K2 then the mountains first descent on skis. Made in Voyage - Adventure of The Honey House

Coming out in winter 2020 Made in Voyage is a feel-good film that will have you planning a road trip in no time. The film follows Cody, Kellyn and their tight-knit crew as they drive across the States and Canada in their converted 1960’s school bus hitting some of the best ski spots along the way.



Electric Grey

Salomon.tv is full of amazing short videos to inspire your future ski adventures. The 2019 film Electric Grey follows mountain endurance athlete Greg Hill as he attempts to climb, run and ski 100 summits without the use of fossil fuels – no snowmobiles, helicopters or flights involved.



The Faction Collective Presents: La Grave

This beautifully presented film explores the steep and rugged terrain of legendary French freeride resort, LA Grave. With plenty of great lines skied the film also delves into the character of the town itself, and even features one of our very own ex-employees!



Bonus series:

Expedition Antarctica


Ok it takes us beyond five but it’s well worth a watch especially for those who dream big. This four-part short series explores Antarctica by sailboat with some ice climbing and skiing in the southern continent. Quick, book me a flight and a long boat transfer in very choppy waters, I want to go there!
