Why the right boot fit matters

Ski boots are one of the most important pieces of kit you’ll buy. A well-fitted boot helps transfer movement efficiently to your skis, supports your stance and lets you ski for longer without pressure points taking over your day. A poor fit can lead to numb toes, sore shins, heel lift, cold feet and a lack of control, even if the boot itself is the right size.

The good news is that ski boots can be adjusted far more than you might realise. From custom footbeds and heat-moulded liners to shell stretching, grinding and flex work, small changes can make a significant difference to how a boot feels and performs. Our in-store boot fitting specialists can assess what’s causing discomfort, identify the best solution and make precise alterations to help your boots work with your feet.

Custom footbeds: the foundation of a better fit

A custom footbed is the most effective upgrade you can make to a ski boot. Standard insoles offer no effective support, while a properly fitted footbed helps stabilise the heel and support the foot in a more efficient position inside the shell.

That improved support will reduce unwanted movement, limit friction and even out pressure spots that result from the foot collapsing. Our custom footbed service includes a full assessment, analysis, footbed customisation and fitting.

Shell stretching, grinding and targeted pressure relief

If a boot is creating pressure in a specific area, shell work may be the most effective solution. Shell stretching can create extra room where the plastic shell is too tight, while shell grinding can remove material from the inside of the shell to relieve a precise pressure point.

These adjustments are especially useful for common fit issues around the forefoot, ankle bones, bunions, heel spurs or other bony areas. They should always be carried out carefully and only after a proper assessment, as the goal is to gain the right amount of space without compromising the hold and performance of the boot.

Flex, buckles and replacement parts

Fit is not only about pressure points. The way a boot flexes, closes and supports the lower leg also affects comfort and control. Shell modification and flex adjustment can involve drilling, cutting or grinding the shell where appropriate, helping to tune the boot to the skier’s needs.

We can also help with replacement sections, including damaged clips, buckles and toe or heel pads where parts are available. These small repairs can extend the life of your boots and keep them functioning properly season after season.
