“This should be on every Ultra runner's bucket list. It normally takes runners 5 years from hearing about the race to entering, so start planning! This year, we had both Jodie Gauld and Charlie Knights taking part, both putting in unbelievable performances!” - Charlie

Race to the Stones

"Threshold events are incredibly passionate and meticulous with all of their events. Resulting in some of the most well-curated events. Race to the Stones offers a great balance of runnable trails, great views and well-stocked aid stations.  Don’t underestimate doing the 100km over two days, waking up and continuing after day 2 can be a real challenge. Some find it more mentally manageable to do the full distance in one go rather than split." - Charlie

"Pegasus events are family-run events that understand the pressures and barriers that first-time ultra runners face.  With no time limits, this takes the pressure off performing, so you can spend more time enjoying the day." - Charlie

"The Wall was my second Ultramarathon, back in 2014. It's a great event if you are looking for atmosphere, great support, and lots of points of historical interest to keep you distracted from how far you have left to go! The route starts at Carlisle Castle and takes in Roman forts and beautiful countryside along the way. Running through Newcastle in the small hours of the morning while being cheered on by inebriated Geordies was also a highlight!" - Kerry, Digital Marketing Manager

"Wild Horse 200 is a 200-mile epic across South Wales, going from the coast to the mountains and back. Self-navigated and 120-hour cut-off, this is one of the most generous 200-mile races"- Charlie

Final thoughts

The UK offers ultras for every style. Mountain specialists, first timers, coastal fans, city-focused runners, and bucket list hunters all have strong options. The best choice depends on your terrain preference, comfort level, and the type of experience you want from the day.

"The UK has such a strong ultra racing scene covering everything from fast races for speed demons to beginner-friendly events. With so many to choose from, selecting one to fit the bill can be hard." - Charlie

Trail running is my way to push limits. Racing the UK’s toughest ultras like Lakeland 100 and Wild Horse 200. Whilst I enjoy the challenge of longer runs, I also get competitive in shorter distances.

I enjoy all forms of running, but most of the routes I do are off-road in the South Lakes.
