Glenmore Lodge - October Update
October, as every year, saw the launch of the Glenmore Lodge brochure for the next 12 months. This year our brochure has significantly grown in size. This year we have included more information than ever before on how the UK’s structure of outdoor qualifications work, as well as more detail on who they are aimed at and what experience you need to have. Most of the enter level qualifications are more attainable than people think and actually provide a great structure to develop your personal performance as well as your coaching and leadership skills. Canyoning is included for the first time with the Lodge running one of the UK’s only ‘Learn to Canyon’ courses rather than simply an experience day. The big change has been the removal of dates and prices. As we schedule over 700 courses a year it can swamp the brochure, it also gives us more flexibility to add or move courses. You can download a PDF copy of the brochure and course dates from our website www.glenmorelodge.org.uk or pop into your nearest Ellis Brigham’s for a hard copy.
The last week in October saw the arrival of the first of the winter weather. Perfectly timed to coincide with our The North Face photo shoot, we enjoyed a week of conditions good enough to allow the first winter routes of the year and even a little ski touring. The photoshoot, our first official shoot with our new clothing partners, The North Face, has yielded some excellent images perfect for promoting ‘The Lodge’ and The North Face. We particularly like Al Gilmour’s, mean and moody instructor profile shot...we promise he’s a pussy cat really! We are sorry to report that as of 13th November, rain and warmer weather has stripped out most of the snow, but rest assured...it will be back soon.
This month also saw the arrival of our new Biomass boiler. As we continue to renovate the building, renewable energy options are top of our agenda. Just one of the reasons we have received two of the highest possible awards, recognising our environmental credentials. (Green Tourism’s Gold Star Award for Best Activity Centre and the Scottish Green Awards, Best Public Sector Facility). The Biomass system has been added to power our new East Wing accommodation. When it opens in April the East Wing will ensure everyone staying at the lodge enjoys the highest standard of accommodation with all of our rooms providing en-suite facilities for the first time. It will also slightly increase our capacity which will help during the busiest winter months.
=Hopefully November will see a strong base of snow down as well as the completion of our last few paddle sport qualification courses. You can keep up to date on the latest news, including the weather, crag and piste conditions via Glenmore Lodges Facebook page.
