Aged just 21, Alex is an endurance adventurer, motivational speaker and author from Cheshire who has made two attempts on the world's highest peak. He is an ambassador for YHA England & Wales, climbed Mont Blanc aged just 17, carried the London 2012 Olympic flame and has raised over £55,000 for charity through his adventures in the Himalayas, Alps and the UK.

Alex Staniforth his very self

Alex is no stranger to adversity. Suffering epilepsy, stammering, mental health problems, bullying and low self-confidence in early life has only driven him to achieve his potential in the outdoors and inspire others to overcome their 'Everest in life'.

Fresh from the Himalaya, Alex will tell the gripping tales of his latest expedition to climb Cho Oyu (8,201 metres), the sixth highest peak in the world, in August 2016. With honesty and vulnerability, he will share the story behind his new book "Icefall" – an inspirational journey which emerges from a humble beginning and culminates with rare first-hand accounts of the two biggest disasters in Everest history.

Having raised the funds singlehandedly whilst still at school, his first attempt to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 2014 was cut short by a major avalanche in the Khumbu Icefall where sixteen tragically died. In 2015 his second attempt was also marred by disaster after narrowly escaping an avalanche in the Khumbu Icefall himself, triggered by the Nepal earthquake, which tragically killed three of his teammates at base camp.

From the fundraising, training, a record-attempt to climb Baruntse (7,129 metres), various setbacks, sacrifices and everything required to make his goal a reality, every obstacle has been an opportunity in disguise to Alex. His other endeavours include completing the National 3 Peaks Cycling challenge solo in four days (walking the three highest UK mountains and cycling 440 miles in between) "Everesting" and a 24-hour solo cycle time trial.
