10 Hiking Instagrammers You Should Be Following

If you prefer to avoid the mainstream influencers with their million-plus followers and the paid posts but are still looking for some inspiration there is a small but authentic collection of hikers who, just like you, live for a life of adventure.

They don't really post for likes or followers, they do it to share what they enjoy, they want to push themselves, challenge social stereotypes and be catalysts for change whilst championing causes close to their hearts. If they can encourage you to join them in their world of adventure at the same time... well that's just a bonus!

@dwaynefields

Jamaican born Dwayne spent most of his childhood growing up in inner-city London and like many other young people became embroiled in a world of gang violence and gun crime. A stark wake-up call came after a life-threatening incident and he made the steps to alter the course of his life.

He reconnected with his love for nature and wildlife which he first discovered in Jamaica and found himself spending more and more time exploring the countryside and living a better life as a result of it. Eventually, in 2010, he became the first black Briton to walk over 400miles to the magnetic North Pole, the first of many expeditions. He now works towards helping other young people, giving them opportunities and tools to make better choices.

@jenandsim

Experienced athletes in their own individual ways Jen and Sim Benson met through their love of the outdoors. Since then they have created a life of adventure that they can enjoy together, each supporting the other in individual pursuits as well as working together for joint challenges, including raising their two children with the outdoors as the heart of their lifestyle.

They have pooled their expertise and experiences into writing and currently have 6 books in their collection, each one designed to inspire you to get outdoors.

@sophiepavs

An adventurous zoologist, talented science communicator, and entertaining public speaker, Sophie uses enthusiasm and humour to bring natural history to new audiences. As well as her hiking adventures she shares quirky stories about British wildlife and conservation and is regularly commissioned for BBC Countryfile Magazine, BBC Wildlife and Wildlife Watch and writes opinion articles about conservation issues for The Metro.

Sophie has a particular interest in beavers and currently contracts part-time for Beaver Trust, coordinating their campaigns and communications to help legalise beavers and restore wetlands across Britain.

@kenny.d.block

Kenny has only been a professional photographer since 2017 yet his vast experience has led to working for some of the outdoor retail industries top brands including Arcteryx, Icebreaker and Montane. He currently lives on the edge of the Lake District which allows him to get out exploring some of the finest mountains the UK has to offer most days. With an eye for a dramatic landscape, he knows some of the best places to capture stunning photography that allows nature to do the talking rather than the editing suite.

@the_hillwalking_hijabi

After living a predominantly city orientated lifestyle Zahrah is no longer a stranger to the outdoor world. After being introduced to hiking by a friend to help relieve the stresses of her accountancy exams a few years ago she has embraced the outdoors and hopes that by sharing her passion she can encourage other Muslim women to explore the mental and physical benefits of enjoying the outdoors.

Her key emphasis is on how accessible hiking can be and she is always happy to offer advice and answer questions for those who are intrigued but still unsure.

@jamesmichaelforrest

Dubbed by the Press as the UK's Mountain Man, James Forrest is currently the fastest person to have climbed all 1,001 mountains across the UK and Ireland (completed between 2017-2019). The journey to the Mountain Man title, from bored office worker, is documented in his award-winning book of the same name.

His Instagram feed reveals a great sense of humour as he sheds light on the highs and lows of hiking in the outdoors, because it's not all glorious landscapes, sometimes it is a broken tent in the middle of a storm in the Brecon Beacons.

@annablackwell

Like many of us, Anna (also an Ellis Brigham ambassador) lives for adventure and loves to go out hiking. She has taken part in a range of activities and expeditions but most recently completed The Green Ribbon, a 1,000km solo trek across Arctic and Northern Scandinavia.

While she is currently busy undertaking an MSc in Environment and Human Health she highlights the joys that can be had with local hiking adventures and how those can often be what helps you prepare the best for the bigger adventure stuff.

@freya_adventureawaits

Freya works as a podiatrist with the NHS during the day but spends her evenings and weekends exploring as much of the outdoors as she can. As a Salomon ambassador, she has an impressive outdoor wardrobe but more importantly, she puts it through its paces at any given opportunity.

From hiking to scrambling and bouldering, even as far as paragliding, she will literally try anything and wear a smile while she does it.

@dylaangarner

Dylan is a familiar face here at Ellis Brigham, we have hired him as our photoshoot model for a couple of seasons now. Not only is he wildly experienced in the outdoors but he clearly demonstrates a great appreciation for the important things in life: nature and the people around us. He has a positive, 'can-do' attitude and can be found exploring the outdoors most days, even if it's just for a little adventure.

@eddiefitz7

A passionate Scotsman, Ed grew up surrounded by the mountains of Scotland and spent much of his time exploring them. He bought his first camera at the age of fifteen and has been capturing his adventures ever since.

Now a professional photographer he often gets the opportunity to showcase the beauty of Scotland to a wider-reaching audience, he hopes his efforts will encourage more people to get outdoors and experience it first hand. While he might not always share the exact location of where to get the best shot, the sheer abundance of spectacular photos in his gallery will be sure to entice you to explore Scotland to see what you can find for yourself.
