Our Castleford store is located in Xscape Yorkshire - The UK's Ultimate Entertainment Destination and real snow ski slope, that sits conveniently next to Junction 32 on the outskirts of Leeds. The shop specialises in ski and snowboard gear and equipment, and it has a good range of products and brands all year round. Ellis Brigham also provide the expertise to run the indoor climbing wall and sky ride centre that are located in the centre, and as usual you can try out new season snowboards and skis for free.

    Snowboarding Expert

    Homegrown snowboard Expert Simon has spent ten years on snow, taking it up when Castleford Xscape first opened. For six of those he has been sponsored by Salomon Snowboards and Bonfire, winning and placing in the UK and abroad.

    As well as countless hours spent riding Castleford, Simon has completed winters in Morzine, Lake Tahoe, Bear Mountain and  Mayrhofen as well as working three seasons with Ellis Brigham and TSA. Simon’s also a talented snowsports cameraman, and has filmed parts for UK snowboard movies and edits.

    They say Simon owns the biggest T-shirts in Cas Vegas, which makes him pretty easy to identify if you need a hand with snowboard hardware!

  • Adam Blackburn

    Snowboarding Expert

    Store: CASTLEFORD-LEEDS

    Shredstick-weilding Yorkshireman Adam learnt on the rugged slopes of Halifax Dendex ten years ago. Since then he has lapped the snowdome more times than you can shake a ski pole at, and has ridden much of the French and Austrian Alps, North America, and of course the odd roadtrip to Scotland.

    Adam has been with Ellis Brigham and The Snowboard Asylum for over four years, has joined our board tests in Hintertuxand and has a huge wealth of experience riding the snowboards we stock. He also has a huge bank of knowledge of snowboard materials, construction and manufacture, so he's your go-to if you have any questions about the inner workings of your board.

    Bear Mountain, California. "It's a mix of rails, kickers and loads of natural hits all over the mountain. The place is amazing, you can never get bored there."

  • Sarah Martin

    Snowboarding Expert

    With almost a decade's experience on the slopes including two full seasons and and a BASI instructorship under her belt, Sarah Martin is well versed on all things standing sideways.

    Sarah has been a part of the industry since she took up snowboarding and has been a part Ellis Brigham and The Snowboard Asylum for years, joining the team on the annual board test for the past three seasons, getting to know every women's snowboard we stock. She's a tough nut to crack, spending our last board test with an appendix on the verge of exploding!

    Her aim this winter is to get her dad on a snowboard, and she's crossing her fingers for some snow closer to home so she can ride in Pontefract Park!

    Cardrona, New Zealand. "I've spent two seasons in Cardrona, it's got such a great terrain park and it beats spending the UK summer at home!"

  • Michael Shepherd

    Running Expert

    Store: CASTLEFORD-LEEDS

    Michael has been running for six years now. But he doesn’t just enjoy running, he also enjoys kayaking, caving, climbing and mountaineering. Having a diploma in coaching, personal training and out outdoor adventure sports makes him far from a one trick pony…

    In the last 6 months Michael has taken up barefoot trail running and has even started his own running club, open to anyone who wishes improve their fitness and isn’t scared of a little hard work! Michael runs a half marathon (13.1 miles) every Sunday and gets out at least three times a week. With each run consisting of around 8-10 miles it’s not just a simple walk in the park. He does all this just to keep his fitness up.

    For this season Michael hopes to complete a trail marathon with his fiancée and also hopes to run a trail half marathon barefoot!

    The Pennines. "The Pennines are my favourite place to run, there’s plenty of fresh air and hills to take in. There’s nothing better than a long uphill challenge to test the legs."

  • Beth Shaun Flanagan

    Climbing Expert

    Climbing expert Beth loves the outdoors. A little over three years ago, Beth discovered her passion for climbing, since then she has gained her diploma in Outdoor Adventure Sports, worked as a climbing instructor teaching both adults and children, and has been on numerous training courses, one of which consisted of ice climbing with The North Face team in Scotland.

    You’ll find Beth in the Lake and Peak districts spending her spare time testing out new routes and venturing to new heights. When she’s not out in the hills, she will usually be found at the Leeds climbing wall honing her technique or pushing herself on new bouldering routes.

    This summer Beth is taking a trip to Magaluf to climb Puig de Massanella and relax at some of the local Majorcan beaches.

    The Lake and Peak Districts. "A few of my favourite places to climb would be the Lake and Peak District due to the variety of climbs and the range of ability levels."

  • Stevie Barker

    Climbing Expert

    Stevie’s climbing expertise began seven years ago when she was just thirteen after she signed up for the Duke of Edinburgh award. Little did she know that what was a just hobby would soon turn into an obsession…

    Since then she has continued to complete all three Duke of Edinburgh awards, obtained her Foundation degree in outdoor education, finished both the Cosford and Wendall 50 mile marches, and conquered the prestigious 100 mile Nijmegen March.

    Having lived in the Lake District for 2 years, Stevie has explored almost all the hills the Lake District has to offer, yet she still discovers a new challenge in every trip. She has completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge, and while she has summited all three separately, hopes to tackle the National 3 Peak 24 hour challenge soon. Notably, Stevie has reached the top of Moldoveanu, the highest mountain in Romania.

    Stevie will be visiting New Zealand later this year, where she plans to tackle the peaks of the mighty Southern Alps.

    The Lake District. "After living there for 2 years, having climbed most of the hills there every trip is still a challenge."

  • Benj Hemingway

    Climbing Expert

    Store: CASTLEFORD-LEEDS

    Benj has been climbing for 18 years now. Learning and mastering multiple disciplines of climbing that include; sport, traditional, bouldering and multipitch. He is always eager to take on new challenges.

    Benj is an SPA qualified climbing instructor, passing skills on to others by freelancing during the summer season. He has climbed all over the UK and has bouldered at legendary spot Fontainebleau in France. His favourite Crag is Robin Proctor Scar in North Yorkshire.

    Currently Benj is training and preparing for a diploma to become a level 2 fitness instructor and level 3 personal trainer. He also intends on starting his own business to provide health fitness programmes for specific outdoor sports.

    Benj’s ambitions for this season are to climb more sport crags than he did last year, and to get his two eldest children to start climbing at his local wall.
