• GENERAL INFORMATION

    Is there an age limit to attend or take part?
    There is no age limit to attend the event and we welcome groups and families of all ages. There is not an onsite creche or childcare, but there will be a Forest School where children must be supervised. Some individual activities will have age restrictions and parent(s)/guardian(s) must accompany any under 18s on activities. The ratio of parent/guardian to children will be stipulated. Some activities will require one parent/guardian to one child.

    Will the talks be family-friendly?
    The first talk each evening will be suitable for younger children to enjoy. The later talk may have topics where parental guidance is advised. Please get in touch for more details.

    What kit will I need to bring?

    Can I bring my own water sports equipment (paddleboard/raft etc.)?
    You are welcome to bring your own crafts. Lifeguards will be patrolling the lake whilst water activities are taking place. Water activities are at your own risk outside of lifeguarded times and adult supervision is required.

    Do I need to bring cash?
    Yes, please bring cash. All the food stalls will accept cards, but it is worth having cash on hand in case of any terminal failure. There will be other things to purchase at the event as well.

    Can I bring my dog?
    Yes, dogs are welcome! However, please keep your dog on a lead aside from when in the specific dog walking area.

    Is there Wi-Fi?
    Yes, there is Wi-Fi available for an additional charge payable to Camping Connect.

    Will the event go ahead in bad weather?
    The event will go ahead no matter the weather - we are hoping for the best and planning for the worst!

  • TICKET INFORMATION

    What does the Explore Weekend ticket include?
    Your ticket includes two nights camping, parking for one car per pitch plus access to all campfire activities including Forest School, mountain first aid sessions, cooking demos, paddleboarding, open water swimming, a repair and restore workshop, slacklining, yoga, and evening talks. Sessions are hosted by qualified guides and experts.

    What is the price?
    Please see our price list. Your weekend ticket includes nearly all activities. We have made a charge of £5 for ‘off-site’ activities; hiking, climbing and trail running. This is to cover additional costs such as transport and guides.

    Can I get a refund or defer if I cannot attend the weekend?
    No deferrals are possible. However, if for some reason you can no longer attend the event, you can transfer your place to someone else. There is a transfer fee of £20 per pitch. Alternatively, you can cancel and get a 50% refund if cancelled before 31st July 2023. After this time, no refunds will be available. To cancel, please email [email protected].

    What is the Active fee?
    The Active fee is the fee applied by the registration platform – Active. This is non-refundable in any circumstance.

    What is the Active Refund?
    The Active Refund is the registration platform’s insurance which is an option available to anyone booking a spot at the event. This covers you for a refund in certain circumstances. Please see their terms here.

  • ACTIVITIES

    Do I have to book all of my activities now, or can I change them at a future date?
    You can change your activity bookings at any stage up to 14 days before the event. The deadline for any changes or bookings for activities is 23:59 on 31st August 2023. Please be aware that booking activities is subject to availability. To change or alter your details or Activity bookings, log back into your Active account to change your additional purchases. If you paid for any of your activity bookings and cancelled these places, then your payments will be refunded. Please email [email protected] to request a refund of your activity booking changes once you have done them.

    Can I book one (or more) of the activities, but not stay for the weekend?
    No, activity bookings will be only available to those booking accommodation at the campsite. However, when the accommodation bookings are complete, we may be able to open up some Activities for additional bookings.

    Do I need any experience to take part in the activities? 
    Many of our activities do not need experience - the Explore Weekend is all about learning new skills and taking on new challenges. Most activity sessions will have the ability to cater for varying levels of experience though, for some activities, experience is required or desirable. Some sessions may divide participants up based on experience or distance. More information about each of the activities is available here.

    Do I have to take part in the activities?
    We hope that there is something of interest for everyone. However, if you or some of your group do not wish to take part in our activities that’s no problem - sit back and enjoy the views!

    Can I leave my kids at the Forest School?
    All children under the age of 16 should be supervised at all times by a responsible parent/guardian. This includes when at the Forest School.

    Are the activities accessible for participants with disabilities?
    Within the booking form you will be asked if you are likely to need assistance in the activities – please answer this question, as it will help us plan any support required.

    If one of the activities is off-site, how do we get to the activity from the campsite?
    Minibuses have been organised for all off-site activities.

    Can I change sessions?
    Yes, subject to availability until 23:59 on the 4th of September. To change sessions, log into your Active account, untick the session you no longer want, and then tick the new session. By removing yourself from one session, the place can be freed up for another person.

    What facilities are available on the campsite?

    What facilities do you have for disabled guests?
    There are wheelchair-friendly disabled toilets and showers on site.

    Do I need a tent of my own?
    Yes, you need to bring your own tent if you are camping. Visit Ellis Brigham online to read our Tent Buying Guide and browse our range of tents.

    Are caravans or campervans permitted?
    Both campervans and caravans are permitted on the site. When registering, please select the caravan or campervan options. Availability is limited for each type of pitch, so we recommend you book early.

    Will there be a family camping area?
    There is no designated area for families as we expect everyone on the site will be respectful and considerate. If you are coming with very young children, then please let us know and we will be happy to work with you to ensure you are happy with the location allocated.

    Will there be a noise curfew in the evenings?
    There will be a noise curfew in place from 10:30 pm.

    Is there food available?
    There is a well-stocked shop selling camping essentials, groceries, and firewood. We will have a breakfast van in the morning and a Wood Fired Pizza van in the evening, so your post-adventure appetites are catered for. A coffee van will be serving hot drinks and pastries throughout the weekend. There will be vegan and vegetarian options for all of the above. Please note the pizza van will be on a first-come, first-served basis, so you may want to arrange backup meals for the Friday and Saturday evening.

    Can I cook my own food on the campsite?
    You are welcome to cook your own food. If cooking over a fire, please ensure you use a fire pit that does not touch the grass.

    Can I light a fire?
    Yes, but only when using a raised fire pit such as these. The campsite also has firepits to hire and firewood for sale.

  • TRANSPORT INFORMATION

    How can I get to the event?
    Driving is the easiest option. The event site is approximately a two-hour drive from Birmingham and Manchester and four and a half hours from London. Other forms of transport are available; you can take a train to Wrexham and then a bus to Bala.

    Can I bring an extra car?
    It is one car per booking. Any additional vehicles can be parked nearby in Bala.

    Is there a car share option?
