1% FOR THE PLANET

Since 1985, Patagonia has pledged 1% of sales to the preservation and restoration of the natural environment. Patagonia have awarded over $145 million in cash and in-kind donations to grassroots environmental groups around the world helping them to stay vigilant and to protect the irreplaceable.

Patagonia was founded in 1973 by Yvon Chouinard making climbing equipment for the Yosemite climbers of the era. Over the last 50 years Patagonia has evolved to make clothing and gear, however Yvon's original philosophy of simplicity and environmental consideration runs at the core of every decision the company makes.

Apparel workers are some of the worst paid in the world. Through Fair Trade Certification, Patagonia pays workers a premium for their labour which provides tangible benefits that improve their lives. Currently over 80% of items in Patagonia's range are Fair Trade Certified Sewn.
