Ever since it was first launched the Gypsy has been pretty much the go to choice for freestyle riders who are looking for a playful park focused board that is versatile enough to break the shackles of the park. Equally happy hitting snow dome rails and park kickers as it is playing around the mountain, its easy-going nature combined with great overall performance make it a no-brainer for intermediate to expert freestyle riders.
Let's not forget though, that it was the Gypsy that took Jenny Jones to a bronze medal at the Sochi Olympics, so don't go thinking that this board can't hack it when things get serious. The secret to the Gypsy's great performance and versatile ride is the combination of balanced twin tip shape, RockOut camber and innovative Equalizer Rad sidecut.
The twin -tip chassis features a blunt tip and tail shape which reduces weight at the ends of the board giving you control when spinning and hitting rails, whilst the RockOut camber (which combines rocker at the contact points, camber under their feet and flat through the middle) gives that perfect mix of great float, playful and forgiving feel all without compromising that responsive and dynamic ride that makes the Gypsy such a great board.
But let's not forget that Equaliser Rad sidecut, its combination of straight lines and various radiuses distribute the riders energy more efficiently and help the Gypsy deliver a level of performance when cruising the mountain more on par with that of an all-terrain board rather than the freestyle board that it is.
Internally Salomon utilise their high quality Aspen SLCT core, this hand selected wood core is milled with the state-of-the-art Popster profiling which creates thick and thin areas through the length, allowing the designers to dial in the perfect flex. Match this with the softer flexing Bi-Ax structural layers and the carbon Slingshot inlays under the feet and you get a board that is super playful but with all the pop and stability that you could ever need.
Finally to give a fast glide in all conditions the Gypsy utilises a tough sintered EG base.
