Stops opportunist thieves
Bought this to replace my aging Demon lock of the same type. The Lifeventure lock feels sturdy and has a thicker cable than my previous lock. I wouldn't be without one on the mountain.
For the sake of a tenner, you can be pretty sure that your snowboard will stay where you left it, safely attached to the rack. Its ideal for when getting lunch or when stopping for a drink. Even with its larger size it easily fits in a jacket pocket.
Lets be right though, if you think this will keep your kit safe overnight where someone can have a good go at it with tools, then you're likely mistaken. It should purely be used to stop someone being able to walk off with your kit. They won't be able to get through the cable easily with pliers, which is really all you need.
Not sure how secure it is, but used when away in france for a week, biggest advantage was making sure nobody lifted wrong set of skis, which appears to be more common than outright theft? Bit on the large size for just popping into a pocket along with all the other bits, but glad I bought one all the same...
A bit tricky to set up
It's a shame that the recoil trigger does not work once the locking mechanism is engaged to make it easy to tighten cable around skis. Instead one has to decide length of cable before locking it which is a bit of pain. Also I find the lock to big and too heavy to keep in my jacket pockets but perfect for any backpacks.
