Youth Adventure Trust Partnership

Ellis Brigham is proud to announce that we have teamed up with Youth Adventure Trust as an official partner. The trust uses outdoor adventure as a personal development tool for vulnerable young people, helping them fulfil their potential and lead positive lives in the future.

Vulnerable young peoples' circumstances can lead to them making poor choices that will affect the rest of their lives. The challenges these young people face are wide-ranging.

They include: bullying; struggling with the transition from primary to secondary school; low self-esteem; lacking friendships and suffering from social isolation; chaotic or unstable home lives; a lack of positive role models; low aspirations and low expectations of what they can achieve and many more.

The trust believes that an early intervention that starts at age 11 and is long-term, will equip young people with skills that will last a lifetime. They help them to overcome the challenges they face, make positive decisions, form friendships, exceed their expectations and achieve their full potential.

They have been using outdoor adventure to inspire young lives for 25 years. In that time, they have helped over 3,800 vulnerable young people aged 11 – 14. And they have delivered more than 27,000 activity days (including outdoor activities and workshops in music, arts and animation).

Today, their specially designed Youth Adventure Programme runs over 3 school years and includes 3 residential camps and 7 different one-day activities.

Future Goals

This year the trust is celebrating their 25th anniversary, but rather than reflecting on what they have already achieved they are focused the next 25 years. There is an ever increasing need for their service, and they want to continue to deliver long term, quality interventions for the young people they work with.

They have set about implementing ambitious plans to develop the organisation, enabling them to help more vulnerable young people through outdoor adventure.

Their plans are two-fold:

  • To improve the end of programme care by developing a mentoring and bursary scheme.
  • To double the number of young people they work with over the next five years.

They rely on the help of 180 volunteers to deliver thier life changing programme each year. Their volunteers give them 7,250 hours each year – that’s the equivalent of 20 hours every day of the year and is worth around £80,000 to the charity.

"On behalf of every young person who we have helped over the past 25 years, we thank everybody who has given their time, money or both, and look forward to the next 25 years of inspiring young lives."

They would like to invite individuals, local businesses, corporates and community groups to join them on their journey in helping more young people fulfil their potential through outdoor adventure.
