Stand up paddle boarding is one of the most accessible, fun and relaxing ways to explore rivers, lakes and coastline. However, no matter your experience level, it is crucial that you always take water safety seriously.

In collaboration with British Canoeing and the Royal Life Saving Society, our friends at Red have put together the following water safety points for stand up paddle boarding.

Every time you paddle you should use the below 10 points as a mental checklist. Importantly, you should always wear a Personal Flotation Device, dress for the water conditions and if you have any doubt as to whether you should paddle or not, then do not go out. There will always be another chance to get on the water. So in the same sense as summit fever, don't be afraid to cancel or delay a paddle if you are not 100% happy with the conditions.
