SIGB Ski Test Day 5

SIGB Ski Test Day 5
1 March 2014 No comments

The last day of the test is a short one with the site closing down at 1pm, though doesn't mean there isn't plenty of skiing to be done. With the sun out again and a dash of fresh snow it was going to be another glorious day in Kuhtai.

We had answered virtually all the questions over the previous 4 days, so this was to be a chance to try some leftfield options, a few favourites, double check a couple of head-to-head results and also try out a very special range.

The dusting of new snow overnight turned the pistes into canvases, just waiting for us to carve turns on to them. So whilst we hung on for the off-piste to soften we took the chance to re-try a few piste skis and rubberstamp our piste range. This was a great decision as the skiing was as good as you could get – excellent grooming, a firm base with soft top, blue skies and no crowds. Perfection!

DPS Skis

By 10.30 we were ready to break out the DPS skis, five pairs of cutting-edge design and materials built for all-mountain skiing. We'd had these sent from Switzerland and were available exclusively for Ellis Brigham, and they certainly didn't disappoint; taking on the groomers, whatever fresh snow we could find, and lots of packed down powder.

Ski crash
Checking how well skis handle a tumble is something our team were careful not to overlook.

Because we'd tried everything we needed to previously, all our test cards were filled in. So, it was a day of skiing, swapping and going straight again. For 5 hours the pistes, the park and the bumps of the off-piste were constantly lapped.

As the test was drawing to a close we took the chance to wander a bit further with our own DPS test skis, even opting for short hike at the end. This was the ideal way to finish the week off with a glorious run down the valley, beyond the lifts and with fresh turns all the way.

Fresh snow kuhtai
There was plenty of fresh snow around even after 5 days of clear weather!

It has to be said that Kuhtai is a perfect test location, and also a beautiful place to holiday. The terrain has wonderful variety, the height makes the village snow-sure, the terrain park and the pipe are immaculately maintained, and the amount of space means it never feels crowded. And if that isn't enough, it's super close to Innsbruck and its airport, plus the standard of accommodation and food definitely doesn't disappoint. Kuhtai is a resort that all snow lovers should visit!

Kuhtai Mountains Austria

Massive thank-yous have to go to SIGB for arranging the test, Kuhtai for helping with the requirements, Tirol for being such a great partner and the Hotel Kristall for their wonderful hospitality.

Keep watching the Ellis Brigham blog and facebook as we begin to release information on test favourites and category winners, and also information about where we'll be testing at the end of the season if you want to come and try some of the latest skis out...
