Merrell MQM Flex GORETEX IF Walking Shoes Review 2018
A hybrid trail running shoe and hiking boot, the MQM (Move Quickly in the Mountains) Flex GORE-TEX IF delivers protection and stability in a lightweight and agile package.
It was developed in conjunction with three of Merrell’s mountain athletes who wanted a shoe that allowed them to move quickly whether travelling up, over or down mountains. In order to fulfil their athlete’s brief Merrell’s product-design team developed new technologies and worked with GORE-TEX to incorporate the company’s latest and lightest footwear specific protective membrane.
The result is a shoe that excels in each phase of mountain travel (hiking, scrambling and running).
GORE-TEX Invisible Fit
GORE-TEX designed their latest membrane to meet the demands of trail runners who want protection from adverse conditions without adding excessive weight. Bonding directly to the shoe upper the membrane removes unwanted wrinkles and folds, allows the shoe to flex and move naturally and adds minimal bulk.
This new technology is a series of flex grooves in the midsole and outer that align with the bones in your foot allowing the shoe to mirror your foot flexing upwards, sideways and down. This results in a better connection and more grip on multiple surfaces while the weight savings offset the thicker protective backend of the midsole.
At either side of the forefoot and the heel you’ll find a toughened mesh fabric. It reinforces these high wear areas extending the life of the shoes without affecting weight, flex and breathability.
M Select Grip
The outer sole is made from Merrell’s in-house M Select GRIP (used in their top-end trail running shoes) and is the tackiest rubber in their range. It works in tandem with 3.5mm lugs and a 6mm drop to supply excellent grip across varied terrain.
