How To Put On Skis And Move Around

Our partners, New Generation, have produced a series of how-to videos for first-time skiers. They have 20 years’ experience in helping people develop their technique, build confidence, and have fun on the slopes.

For a beginner, clipping into your skis may seem complicated the first time you do it. In this video, you will learn how to easily clip into your skis and start moving about.

How To Put on Skis and Move Around

  • Step 1: Make sure the boot is clear of any snow by scuffing it on the toe piece of the binding.
  • Step 2: With the heel piece down, place the toe of the boot into the toe piece.
  • Step 3: Squeeze your heel down until you hear a click.
  • Step 4: To move around with one boot clipped in, keep your body weight over the top of your feet and gently push along, using your feet and poles to steady.

Now, you should be able to easily clip your boots into your skis and freely move around the resort. If you would like any more information on first-time skiing, check out New Generation's Learn to ski page.
