Hintertux Staff Ski Test - Day 1
Wow! What a start to the week! It's May and we have clear blue skies and light fresh snow. There are no queues for the lifts and the pistes are virtually empty. This is ski testing at its very best – thank you Hintertux and Tirol.
We have large team of testers and filmers out here, 16 in total, with two main goals – shooting footage for online ski reviews and doing staff training. The key part of the training is the very best kind, skiing. Getting shop staff from stores around the country onto next year's skis so they can talk with first-hand knowledge about the products they are selling. The training doesn't stop off the snow - the evenings involve seminars and talks from EB trainers and also from brand reps and factory staff.
Monday has seen perfect conditions and the fresh snow has meant many freeride and wider all mountain skis have been out many times, getting rave reviews in the process. The Rossignol Soul 7 was a big favourite today, unsurprisingly, but two new models for next year also stood out - the Blizzard Peacemaker and the Nordica NRGy 90. These are skis that will win numerous awards and get a lot of attention.
Apart from skis we're also trying helmets, boots, goggles and some clothing. And in weather like this it's all being very well received.
After a beautiful evening meal at Hotel Neuhintertux, we had a special presentation from Atomic focusing on new custom ski boot fitting technology for next year from the man who actually designed the products. Matt had come three hours from the factory to present the range with help from Jason from Atomic UK.
We now have everything crossed for another day just like this one. It really is the best kind of training.
