Helinox Chair One Review

Helinox Chair One Review

The design principles behind Helinox’s Chair One are portability, durability, beauty and comfort. To achieve this, they teamed up with the tent experts ‘DAC’ to create an ultra-lightweight and strong frame. Add a super durable seat to the frame and the end result is an elegant chair that you can easily carry and relax on whatever the adventure.

We gave the chair to Pete from our web team to spend the weekend using it and see if it delivered on its reputation.

Initial Thoughts

The high-quality ripstop pack it comes in gives it a premium feel from the start and it was really easy and quick to assemble. Once you’re sat down it’s comfy for long periods and the mesh parts of the seat provide you with plenty of ventilation.

Lightweight DAC TH72M aluminium frame

Helinox Chair One Frame

The frame is made from advanced aluminium; it’s a higher specification than aircraft-grade and goes through over 70 production processes before it’s finished.

Compact pack size

The chair is just longer than my size 10 trainers when it’s packed up and at 890g it only weighs the same as an average water bottle (when full).

Quick and easy to assemble

Toughened elastic pulls the frame poles into the correct slots and then you simply place the fabric seat over the frame. It must have only taken me about 20 seconds to put it together.

The thick fibres make sure the seat is strong enough to support up to 145kg and withstand all the demands of camping and adventures.

How Did It Perform

Materials 10/10

Made from above aircraft-grade aluminium, this chair uses only the best materials. Everything about it shouts quality with even the pack made from ripstop fabric that features carry handles and gear loops.

Comfort  8/10

The chair is comfortable to sit on whether you’ve stopped for lunch on a walk or you’re sitting around a campfire or BBQ, this chair does it all.  Because it is so compact and portable the chair may feel a little low to the ground for some people and it doesn’t have specific neck support. If you are looking for a chair which places you higher off the ground and has a taller back, the Helinox Sunset delivers on both of these requirements, however, it’s bigger and weighs more.

Durability 10/10

The chair feels solid and because it’s made from such premium material and fabrics you know it is going to last for a long time.

Helinox back up the chair’s credentials with a 5-Year warranty that covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship from the original owner’s date of purchase.

Portability  10/10

The chair easily fitted in my backpack and because it is so quick to put up and disassemble, I feel like I was able to use it more.

Weight 10/10

At 850g (out of the pack) it is incredibly light for how sturdy it is and the amount of comfort it provides.

Convenience  10/10

I took about 20 seconds to put it all together and be sat down on it.  And to take it apart at pack it away is just as easy if not quicker.

Aesthetics  10/10

The turquoise anodised frame looks great next to the black seat fabric and all the detailing around the logos and stitching give it a clean look.

Pro’s and Con’s

Pro’s

  • Compact and lightweight for portability
  • Sturdy and comfortable
  • 5-year warranty

Con’s

  • It doesn’t come with a cup holder, however, you can buy one that clips onto the frame.

Overall verdict

This chair is great for any outdoor adventure or camping trip, especially if you're going to be moving about; it’s dependable, comfortable and looks fantastic whatever the setting.
