Glenmore Lodge - Christmas Update
We’re all preparing for and getting excited about Christmas and it is no different at the Lodge. As the only time in the year we shut down completely it’s a time for us all to have some time off and enjoy the skiing, climbing and even the chilly kayaking that the Cairngorms has to offer at the moment. The office is officially closed from 5pm on Friday 21st December until 8am on Thursday 3rd January but you’ll still be able to book all of our courses on-line and if you want to ask any questions we will remain active on Facebook and Twitter, so feel free to catch us on there.
Ski Touring Update
November and December have already given us some excellent conditions for ski touring. Although our courses don’t start until January we’ve been making the most of the conditions so far and getting some personal mileage in. The conditions look great and with more snow falling this week we are sure it will be a cracking season again. New for 2013 will be our brand new touring kit. With 65 sets of Scarpa touring boots and 24 sets of SkiTrab skis fitted with a mix of Fritschi & Dynafit bindings, you’ll be able to test some of the latest equipment available, ideal if you catch the touring bug by the end of your course! Also don’t forget our excellent ski surgery weekend on 2nd & 3rd February which offers a wide range of workshops, a great value weekend with top class instruction.
Alpine Ski Touring
With some early bookings we are in the great position to be able to confirm our entire Alpine Ski Touring programme with exception of our Chamonix Intro Course (which only needs 2 more bookings). Whether you simply prefer to learn to ski tour in the stunning surrounding of the Alps or you are looking to experience the classic Haute Route tour, our programme has something to offer all abilities. Our brand new Albula tour is currently full but we are keen to extend it if we get further interest. Over the Christmas period we have enabled on-line booking for all of these courses, but ask you please speak to us in January before you book your flights.
Yet again, our best seller this season has been our introductory level, Winter Skills course. The mountains in winter become a completely different prospect, navigational skills become even more important and the need for good avalanche awareness key. There are also new technical skills required, such as using an ice axe and crampons. No matter how extreme your goal is, this is the starting point for all and designed to open the door to safely enjoying a true winter wonderland.
Save £10 on your shopping at Ellis Brigham
To celebrate our partnership with the UK’s premier outdoor retail group, throughout 2013 everybody that stays at the lodge will receive a £10 voucher for Ellis Brigham. We all know it is impossible to own enough outdoor equipment and this is your chance to pay a little less. Just present the voucher, printed on your room key card holder and you’ll get £10 off any purchases over £100. Something extra to celebrate!
East Wing Accommodation Upgrade
Anyone who has visited the lodge in the last 5 years will be aware that in 2007 we upgraded our south wing accommodation, enabling us to provide accommodation standards you’d expect in a good quality hotel. Since the work was completed we have been looking at ways to bring all of the accommodation on site up to the same standards. We are now well on the way to achieve this, with the upgrade of our existing staff wing, into customer accommodation. The east wing renovations are running ahead of schedule and we are on target to open in April.
Finally we would just like to wish you all a happy, safe, yet truly adventurous Christmas and New Year break. We look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.
