5 Reasons You Should Visit the Tirol

Visit the ‘Heart Of the Alps’ this winter and you can be sure of superbly groomed slopes, genuine hospitality and high quality accommodation, as well as varied, challenging terrain in some of the largest ski areas in Europe.

Here are just a few reasons why the Tirol area of Austria is a firm favourite of ours:

1. The Variety Of Skiing – all year round!

Tirol is a perfect destination for beginners, families, experts and non-skiers alike. It says a lot that we keep returning every year for our annual ski test. Both Wilder Kaiser and Ski Juwel are perfect for families with dedicated children areas and English speaking instructors. The resort of Soll is over 50% blue runs so is especially good for young families and beginners.

Tirol also offers the opportunity to ride all year long. With five of the best Glaciers in Europe including Hintertux (home to the Ellis Brigham ski test every May) and Stubai, skiers and snowboarders can access some of the best snow conditions even in summer! For non-skiers many of the resorts including Ski Jewel have plenty on offer with winter walking trails, high ropes courses and ice skating.

2. The Amount of Terrain

Tirol know a thing or two about offering choice of terrain and have created one pass: the Kitzbuhler Alpen Allstarcard that will give you access to 1000km of piste including the Ski Welt & Ski Jewel resorts. Aside from the Allstarcard the biggest single ski area in the region is Zillertal offering 506kms of piste on one pass. St Anton, Innsbruck and Wilder Kaiser follow with over 300km of piste each.

Each area offers a free and easy to use bus service to transport weary legs across town.

3. Short Airport Transfers

The Tirol is great a location for weekend warriors who have just three days to cram in as much riding as possible! Tirol is just two hours from Munich airport and easily accessible by train, bus, car or transfer.

By far the easiest way to access the region is to take the magnificent flight into Innsbruck Airport (December to March) with Easyjet. World famous St Anton is just a one hour transfer time from Innsbruck but even closer is Innsbruck itself where you have a choice of 9 ski areas on one lift pass and be on the slopes in just 20 minutes after landing!

4. Off Piste Heaven & On Piste Notoriety!

Take on the most famous ski run in the world (the Hahnenkamm) or venture off piste into the glades and steeps of Fieberbrunn. St Anton offers some fantastic backcountry terrain to explore and the Valluga 2 lift is only accessible with a guide due to the ‘gut-wrenching’ descent into Zurs but is world famous for being one of the must do off-piste routes.

5. Night Life!

You’ve probably heard of St Anton’s legendary nightlife (it’s hard to beat!) but other resorts such as Kitzbuhel and Mayrhofen are just as lively if you want oompah bands and Europop enjoyed with plenty of Schnapps then look no further than these resorts!
