2016 Snow boots Review

Arctic blasts and huge snowfall across the Alps and Rockies signify the return of winter proper! When the icy mornings hit there's nothing better than having warm, comfy footwear to counter the cold starts. We have reviewed some of our favourite snow boots and moon boots for all winter adventures. From Sunday jaunts to Arctic expeditions, our boots will ensure your feet stay warm and dry, whatever the weather.

For winter day strolls, school runs and more

The OC Snow Boots are the perfect counter to cold, icy conditions. Raintex+ provides waterproof protection, while the fluffy inner lining gives a snug, warm fit. Your secret weapon against slippery surfaces comes in the form of a flip-down anti-skid plate that has metal studs to help bite into the ice and give extra traction on snowy pavements. The men's model has two adjustable straps and reflective detailing, while the women's can be cinched in with either the adjustable strap or top drawcord helping to seal in the warmth.

For après-ski slope style (and functionality!)

The North Face are renowned for their quality and attention to detail, so it's no wonder their Chilkats are some of our most popular snow boots. Ideal for après-ski enthusiasts, they give incredible warmth thanks to the Heatseeker 200g insulation, which also acts as plush cushioning around the ankle. To combat slushy snow they also have a waterproof construction and feature the TNF Winter Grip rubber sole which has IcePick lugs that harden in the cold for better traction. The men's Luxe version uses premium leather uppers for better durability, while the women's Chilkat 3 Nylon uses ballistic nylon uppers to give longevity in a lightweight package.

For adventures in the Arctic Circle

For serious cold weather contenders, look no further than the Sorel Caribou Wool snow boots. Rated to perform down to -40°C, they provide the ultimate winter footwear. Stomp through spindrifts and slushy snow with ease thanks to the hand crafted rubber shell and seam-sealed waterproof construction. The 9mm wool inner boot keeps feet warm and cosy, and can be easily removed for drying or for use as a hut slipper! Finishing touches include full grain leather uppers that are supple and durable, and the Sorel Aero-Trac sole that will provide sure footing when the snow has fallen.

For snow-loving kids...

At the first sign of snowflakes it can be hard to contain kids' enthusiasm for all things snow related. Whether tobogganing, building snowmen or simple enjoying a winter's day in the park, keeping their feet warm and dry can be tricky. That's where the Sorel Kids' Super Trooper snow boots come in. Ideal for little feet; they're warm, waterproof and have a removable inner liner. Elasticated lacing and toggles make them a doddle to do up, and the adjustable cord at the top of the boot seals in warmth and keeps snow out!

For comfort at the end of the day

Whether it's long sessions on the slopes, or strenuous winter hikes, there's nothing quite like relaxing at the end of the day. The North Face's NSE Tent Mules are a perfect remedy for cold, tired feet, providing maximum comfort in a warm, cosy fit. ThermoBall synthetic insulation gives outstanding warmth-for-weight performance, while EVA foam provides plush cushioning underfoot. For extra protection the lightweight ripstop nylon uppers are water resistant (in case you need to pop outside!).
