Cambridge's resident mountaineer is Mateo. He has been out in the mountains learning all the required skills for as long as he can remember, tackling different terrains from the Pyranees, all around the peaks of Spain as well as the Highlands of Scotland. He has recently also developed a great passion for trail running and loves to get involved in challenges and events to test his personal limits.
Over his years of mountaineering he has amassed a great deal of knowledge and endured some pretty difficult scenarios that have taught him well. He once got caught out in some terrible weather conditions on a 2600m peak north of Spain, luckily he was prepared and managed to build a shelter for protection; it was a 10 hour wait before conditions became suitable to descend safely.
He loves the small mountain range of Picos de Europa in northern Spain. Known as "The Small Himalayas" due to its high rocky peaks, it has a great proximity to the sea which means wherever you look there are spectacular views.
