Join us for an exclusive talk and book launch event by a truly inspirational individual who believes great adventures exist on our doorstep, should be affordable and easy to organise.

On Wednesday 4th June we welcome global adventurer and creator of the microadventure Alastair Humphreys to Covent Garden for the launch of his latest book 'Microadventures – Local Discoveries, Great Escapes.'

Alastair says, "Adventure is only a state of mind. It is accessible to normal people, in short segments of time and without having to spend much money. That is why I came up with the idea of microadventures. Simple expeditions or challenges that are close to home, affordable and easy to organise."

From sleeping on a hilltop and cycling a lap of the Isle of Wight to walking home for Christmas and catching and cooking your supper, Alastair's new book inspires you with the stories and experiences from each of his microadventures, as well as offering handy tips and ideas on how to plan one, leave the comfort of your home and discover something new about yourself and the world outside. He proves that you don’t need to fly to the other side of the planet to be adventurous.  A microadventure may be small, but it can just as rewarding.

Alastair will sign copies of his new book and talk about a few of the adventures he has experienced in recent years. Alastair's list of adventures include spending four years cycling round the world; walking across southern India; rowing the Atlantic; running six marathons through the Sahara; completeing a crossing of Iceland, and participating in an expedition in the Arctic.  In addition Alastair has trekked 1000 miles across the Empty Quarter desert and 120 miles around the M25 – one of his pioneering microadventures. In 2012 he was named one of National Geographic's Adventurers of the year.
