Boreal was founded in 1975 by Jesus Garcia Lopez in the town of Villena, Spain. Together with Miguel Gallego, a prolific rock climber, Jesus began to experiment with the first ‘sticky rubber’ rock shoes.
Their reputation rocketed in the global climbing community and when 265 pairs of their climbing shoes were imported to be sold at The Yosemite Mountain Shop in the spring of 1983, they sold out in the first two hours! It’s now over 40 years later and Boreal is headed up by sons Jesus Jr. and Jorge. They continue to innovate using a host of features and advanced materials in their climbing shoes to improve fit and grip. Their range of shoes includes something to suit the needs of every climber, from beginner to those pushing the very limits of the sport.
