The North Face was founded in 1966 with the goal of preparing outdoor athletes for the rigors of their next adventure. Today they are the world's leading outdoor brand, creating athlete-tested, expedition-proven products that help people explore and test the limits of human potential. They protect our outdoor playgrounds and minimize their impact on the planet through programs that encourage sustainability.
At the heart of Athlete Tested. Expedition Proven.™ is the philosophy that authentic athlete insights push The North Face design and engineering teams to propel products forward. FUTURELIGHT™ technology is no different. One athlete insight born in the mountains sparked a revolution to create a sustainably-made waterproof membrane with superior air permeability while maintaining waterproofness.
SUSTAINABILITY
Inspiring a global movement of outdoor exploration and conservation is the catalyst behind everything The North Face does. It’s the reason they manage products and operations responsibly, develop industry-leading strategies like the Responsible Down Standard and the 'Clothes the Loop' recycling program and use the Explore Fund to aid conservation and help young people to experience and explore the outdoors.
HISTORY
Named after the coldest, most unforgiving side of a mountain The North Face legend begins, ironically, on a beach in San Francisco in 1966 when two hiking enthusiasts resolved to follow their passions and founded a small mountaineering retail store. Soon thereafter, they began designing and manufacturing their own brand of high-performance technical mountaineering apparel and equipment.
