THE BEST ALL MOUNTAIN SKIS FOR 2019

These go-anywhere do-anything skis work well in all conditions and terrain - removing the need for a quiver of skis. Generally, they are designed with slightly more tip and tail rocker for better handling and a medium waist for on and off-piste performance.

Here are our winners and runners-up for 'best in class' all mountain skis.

Women's

Blizzard

Black Pearl

Blizzard Black Pearl

  • Radius: 14m
  • Waist: 88mm
  • Rocker: Tip/Tail
  • Demo: Available

The Overall Ski of the Year as well as the All Mountain winner was an easy choice based on the volume of positive test results and the sheer number of happy owners. The Black Pearl is many things to many people but all remark on the smooth handling and the balanced nature. Encouraging less confident skiers to venture further and better skilled riders to push themselves more, it’s lively on piste and effortless off.

Tester’s comment

Justyna (Milton Keynes) "I love how balanced this ski feels, no matter what the snow. I’m totally comfortable on it at any speed and on any terrain."

Women's

K2

True Luv

K2 True Luv

  • Radius: 14m
  • Waist: 78mm
  • Rocker: Tip
  • Demo: Available

The all-new True Luv is a re-boot on a classic all mountain ski. The 78mm waist is ideal for quick response on piste but still wide enough to provide stability for all kinds of conditions off the side. The fir and aspen BIOkonic Woodcore is women’s specific and uses a shape and flex pattern unique to this model, no dumbing-down of a men’s equivalent. Carbon in the construction improves liveliness and Hybritech sidewalls increase grip and precision.

Tester’s comment

Florrie (Covent Garden) "A lightweight ski that looks great. Has the ability to give great performance when pushed and holds an edge well. Really enjoyable and encourages progression."

Men's

Atomic

Vantage X 86 Ti

Atomic Vantage X 86 Ti

  • Radius: 18.2m
  • Waist: 86mm
  • Rocker: Tip
  • Demo: Available

This is a limited release ski, available exclusively through Ellis Brigham in the UK. It slipped the radar of many retailers as it was not widely offered but it only took 1 peek at the credentials to get us excited. Testing confirmed everything we suspected, this is a thoroughbred All Mountain ski that will carve and hold an edge on the hardest snow and has the power and size to deal with anything off piste.

Tester’s comment

Mark (Trainer) "The one-ski solution for all mountain skiers who want it all, without compromise. Fast and precise on piste, stable and powerful off piste."

Men's

Salomon

XDR 80 Ti

Salomon XDR 80 Ti

  • Radius: 14m
  • Waist: 80mm
  • Rocker: Tip/Tail
  • Demo: Available

If you like mixing up your skiing with different turn shapes, speeds, bumps, pistes and terrain, this could be your perfect match. The essence of the XDR 80 Ti is snappy handling on piste but ,thanks to the All Terrain Rocker 2.0 and its set back contact points, the result is smooth handling and a more adventurous outlook too. C/FX fibres, Ti laminate and Powerzones beef up performance for skiing at speed.

Tester’s comment

Dani (Aviemore) " I was amazed how good it was through a range of turn sizes and speeds. It's lively and powerful with effortless turn initiation and just loves to carve."
