Vectran Fibre

Vectran Fabric

The Ace is the first ever GORE-TEX Pro jacket to feature a Vectran fibre face. Vectran is a fibre spun from a liquid-crystal polymer that results in a material almost twice as strong as Kevlar and one that performs better in cold temperatures. These same fibres have been used by NASA in their spacesuits and in part of the Mars lander equipment.

In conjunction with GORE-TEX, Norrona placed a layer of Vectran on top of the GORE-TEX Pro 3 layer membrane, dramatically increasing durability without affecting the rain and wind resistance or wicking properties.

Demonstrating just how tough this material is, the prototype design team were unable to cut through the fabric using standard scissors. And when it was taken into production, the manufacturers had to re-tool their machines to cut the patterns.

Chest Ventilation

While the shape and cut of the jacket are based on the ever-popular Lofoten, the Ace has a unique look to the front. To the side of the main zip sits a front venting channel. A great addition to the to the two under arm zip vents, this third vent really comes into its own when you are skinning up a steep slope.

Hand Gaiters

The hand gaiters slide over your fingers and thumbs with a hint of stretch for that perfect fit. Add in a powder skirt, easy adjust hem and water-resistant zips for dry and comfortable times.

Overall verdict

If you're looking to rappel down a rock face in order to reach that perfect couloir, or slash your way through waist-high powder in Japan then this is the jacket for you. It can take a beating like no other while retaining all of the performance of any other GORE-TEX Pro jacket.
