Those Norwegians can ski. Skiing legends such as Kjetil Aamodt and Lasse Kjus all perfected their skills on the slopes of Norway and now Aksel Lund Svindal is almost certain to secure his place in the hall of Norwegian and indeed international skiing fame!

You may recognise him, but most likely you will have heard of him as Svindal is currently ranked 1st overall in the FIS World Cup.  He is as comfortable competing in Downhill as he is GS – a true all rounder was born 1982 just outside of Oslo his passion for the sport began at the age of three when he was given his first skis. He began racing when he was 10 years old, and competed internationally at 16. In 2002, Svindal earned four medals in the Junior World Ski Championships. He went on to win two World Championship gold medals in the 2006/2007 season and was honoured with his first overall World Cup title. Two more gold medals came at the World Championships of 2009 and 2011. At the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, he earned the gold medal in Super-G, the silver in Downhill and the bronze in Giant Slalom.
