OUR CAMPING EXPERTS ARE IN-STORE AWAITING YOUR QUESTIONS
Camping can be as extreme as you want it to be, and covers everything from family holidays in the sun to solo bivvying at high altitude. Our camping experts have tried and tested a lot of the equipment we sell, and will be able to offer sound and helpful advice if you're planning any kind of camping trip.
Jon Davies - Chester
Jon is Chester's resident tent geek. 20 years' experience braving the elements under canvas has rendered him one of our most knowledgeable camping experts; from tents, to tarps, to bivvi bags, he goes out in all seasons, in all weathers. His wealth of practice mean he has had first-hand experience with almost all the camping equipment brands we stock.
Not all of Jon's camping trips have been a total success. During one foray into the Snowdonian mountains, a 100mph gust tore his friend's tent apart and blew his gear down the side of Mynydd Tal-y-Mignedd. It at least taught him the value of good gear.
Cwm Eigiau, Snowdonia. "The more remote the better! Cwm Eigiau strikes a good balance of being fairly easy to get to, but feeling incredibly remote. You barely see a soul, besides the Carneddau ponies."
Store: GLASGOW BRAEHEAD - TREK
Frazer’s love of camping began at an early age as a young cub scout. He has camped extensively throughout Scotland in all weather conditions but has also explored the wilderness of New Zealand’s South Island with his tent as well.
Frazer mainly enjoys taking to his bike during the spring and summer months to camp and explore the Scottish wilderness and often enjoys a spot of wild swimming when the conditions are right.
Frazer is hoping to travel to the Hebridean Isle of Rum this summer to explore its coast and mountains.
Dee Side, Cairngorm. "I love Dee Side because of its rolling tundra, deep rivers and Scot’s Pine trees making it one of the most picturesque places to wild camp in the highlands."
Trekking & Camping Expert
Malcolm has been trekking in the UK for many years, spending a lot of time with youth club camps in the Lake District. In 2000 he went to America during which he trekked in the White mountains of Vermont. Malcolm also love to get out on his mountain bike.
Spending most of his time in the Lake District, but equally at home all around the UK, Malcolm has managed to complete the 3 Peaks Challenge 5 times!
During this time Malcom has used a lot of different products gaining knowledge on what works best.
Having experienced bad health problems, but not wanting to be slowed down, Malcolm found that the equipment we have, has aided him to carry on with activities as he did before he was ill which he's found that communicating this to customers reassures them with the choice they have made.
I have two favourite destinations, the Lake District and Fort William both have amazing are-as for my two favourite activities, trekking and mountain biking. One of my aims for this season is to get out and spend as much time as I can doing my favourite activities. I also plan to extend my knowledge in snowboarding as I recently had my very first lesson which was an awesome experience."
