Ellis Brigham Mountain Sports, Tamworth
Nestled at the foot of Tamworth's only mountain, The Snowdome, the Tamworth shop is a specialised skiing and snowboarding centre. The staff have got decades of experience between them, and they love being able to try out new kit in the Snowdome as soon as it comes out, which means they're a fountain of knowledge for skiing and boarding hardware. This store also offers free demos for the latest equipment, so if you're thinking of buying a new set up, make sure you get down to the store, talk to the experts and try out all the options before you buy.
Please note, the Tamworth store does not generally stock outdoor clothing, footwear or accessories, however any products featured in our catalogue or on our website are available to order into store free of charge with no obligation to buy.
Lizzie has been working at Ellis Brigham for over 4 years, having joined the company recently after graduating from a Pyschology and Sociology degree. She heads up a strong team of expert sales assistants in the Tamworth SnowDome store, and personally has a great knowledge of our outdoor clothing ranges.
Although she doesn't class herself as an expert, Lizzie starting snowboarding 5 years ago and has got the bug, recently returning from a trip to Flaine in the French Alps. So if you need advice about mountaineering jackets, or the best ski wear in the latest collection, come and talk to Lizzie.
Matt has been snowboarding for 9 years, and spent a full season in Mayrhofen. He started boarding in UK competitions several years ago, and soon got noticed by the likes of Burton, Analog, Anon and the Snowboard Asylum, all of whom now sponsor him. If you’ve got any questions about men’s boots or boards, Matt’s the guy to ask.
Mayrhofen. “Got to know the resort really well during his season, and it’s a great place for both summer and winter sports.”
Perhaps unusually skiing expert Robin started his snowsports life as a snowboarder on a school trip to the Tamworth Snowdome, before deciding that skiing was his preferred discipline. Following the initial school snowboard trip, he went on to establish the snowsports club during his undergraduate days at Brimingham City University, and only actually tried his hand at skiing due to a bet with the ski club captain.
Robin never looked back, and now goes skiing at least twice a week in the SnowDome, and abroad as often as possible. Backcountry and freestyle skiing are always high on the agenda when he goes away, and Robin usually skis the whole mountain on powder skis, just on the off chance that some fresh snow will fall. He's a Surefit certified ski boot fitter, and he's got lots of retail experience, so if you need new boots, or any kit for the backcountry, Robin is a good place to start.
Val Thorens, France. "I love this place just because of the sheer size and height of the resort. It doesn't matter what's going on the town, there is always powder at the top. And Bar 360 from 3pm onwards is rocking!"
Like many snowboarders James got in to the sport through skateboarding. He was already an accomplished skateboarder when he first went on a school ski trip and tried riding a snowboard, and the synergy between the sports meant he'd soon found his feet. He's now been snowboarding for over 12 years, going on as many trips abroad as possible, and using the SnowDome slope at least once a week.
James is keen on free riding and riding powder whenever possible, but the main aim when he's on a mountain is to see as much of it as possible, which is why loves the European Alps with its huge expanses of terrain. Coupled with trips to Canada and the US, he's racked up over 26 weeks on the mountain and Japan is next on the list of places to visit.
Meribel. "This is a resort I know really well, and it's got loads of great terrain combined with a vibrant town. Best of both worlds."
Tom has been been skiing for over two decades, starting out in the Snowdome when he was 4 and going to Heavenly for his first mountain holiday when he was 9. Most of his skiing has been in North America, around Lake Tahoe in California and Canadian resorts.
An all-mountain skier with a head for adventure, Tom started to do a season in Revelstoke in 09/10 season but it was cut short three weeks in when he collided with a tree at over 50mph – thankfully he was able to walk out of the hospital the same day.
Tom is hoping to head out to Japan for the 14/15 season to experience its legendary powder, and to experience the Tokyo nightlife.
Revelstoke, BC, Canada. "I So much freeride terrain accessed from three lifts. If you don't mind a hike and an explore there is an insane amount of terrain and light fluffy powder, pillows, bowls and tree runs."
Ellis Brigham Snowboard Expert and TSA rider Doug is a mainstay of the Tamworth Snowdome scene. A skilled park rider for over 10 years, he has completed seasons in Banff and has taken his board all over Europe and North America. Doug is a regular on our annual board test and has ridden virtually every board we stock, so is a great source of first-hand knowledge.
Perhaps not the greatest advertisement for the sport, Doug has broken his arms in five different places while snowboarding, yet he still rides Tamworth week in, week out, and designs their park set up once a month.
Tamworth Snowdome. "It's the original and best! I also love Mayrhofen due to the super fast park laps and the super fun runs around the whole mountain."
