Ellis Brigham Mountain Sports, Castleford
Our Castleford store is located in Xscape - The UK's Ultimate Entertainment Destination and real snow ski slope, that sits conveniently next to Junction 32 on the outskirts of Leeds. The shop specialises in ski and snowboard gear and equipment, and it has a good range of products and brands all year round. Ellis Brigham also provide the expertise to run the indoor climbing wall and sky ride centre that are located in the centre, and as usual you can try out new season snowboards and skis for free.
Johnny is another of our pro riders, so as well as being sponsored by The Snowboard Asylum, he gets free kit from Lobster, Thirty Two and Union. He started boarding over 18 years ago, and at the age of 16 went to his first local competition. His snowboarding career built from there, and last year he managed to get to 10 different resorts and two end of season competitions
During his time as a snowboarder Johnny has completed 5 full seasons in resort, and he’s been on the last 5 TSA board tests. Needless to say he knows a lot about snowboarding so if you want some expert advice, drop in to the Castleford shop and talk to Johnny.
Big White in Canada. “This is a really fun place to ride. There’s lots of different types of terrain, and lots of trees. The people are really friendly too.”
Homegrown snowboard Expert Simon has spent ten years on snow, taking it up when Castleford Xscape first opened. For six of those he has been sponsored by Salomon Snowboards and Bonfire, winning and placing in the UK and abroad.
As well as countless hours spent riding Castleford, Simon has completed winters in Morzine, Lake Tahoe, Bear Mountain and Mayrhofen as well as working three seasons with Ellis Brigham and TSA. Simon’s also a talented snowsports cameraman, and has filmed parts for UK snowboard movies and edits.
They say Simon owns the biggest T-shirts in Cas Vegas, which makes him pretty easy to identify if you need a hand with snowboard hardware!
Bear Mountain, California. "Fun jibs, chilled people, and great vibes. Otherwise I love to shred Tamworth with my mate Doug!"
Shredstick-weilding Yorkshireman Adam learnt on the rugged slopes of Halifax Dendex ten years ago. Since then he has lapped the snowdome more times than you can shake a ski pole at, and has ridden much of the French and Austrian Alps, North America, and of course the odd roadtrip to Scotland.
Adam has been with Ellis Brigham and The Snowboard Asylum for over four years, has joined our board tests in Hintertuxand and has a huge wealth of experience riding the snowboards we stock. He also has a huge bank of knowledge of snowboard materials, construction and manufacture, so he's your go-to if you have any questions about the inner workings of your board.
Bear Mountain, California. "It's a mix of rails, kickers and loads of natural hits all over the mountain. The place is amazing, you can never get bored there."
Will uses his Masters degree in Geology and Mining as a thinly-veiled excuse for travelling all over the world. Throw a dart at a map of the Earth, and chances are it will land somewhere he's been.
From trekking in the deserts of Namibia to 3 months working in Mongolia's hostile Gobi, to panning for gold in Northern Ireland, Will has criss-crossed the face of the earth like few others.
He has climbed South Africa's Table Mountain, skied throughout the Alps and been dog sledding in Finland.
Closer to home, Will loves the variety of the UK and considers the Cuillin of the Isle of Skye and moors of the South West some of his favourite places in the world.
Will knows that travelling isn't always as smooth as brochures make out. While in Mongolia, he had the misfortune to contract a parasitic infection for the duration of his 3 month trip(not ideal when you're the only English-speaking person around). And while cycling through the Pyrenean mountains he crashed his bike, breaking two ribs and giving himself whiplash. Will considers this all part of the experience, with adversity a crucial element in his travelogue.
Lots of places. "Any desert! Or the Isle of Skye or Pyrenees."

"My wife and myself bought some winter climbing gear from your Castleford shop on Sunday. Gareth helped us throughout the painful process of spending £700, never easy for a true Yorkshireman. His level of service was without doubt the best we have experienced in any outlet, his knowledge and manner was first class. He is an asset to Ellis Brigham and I wanted to pass on our thanks to Gareth, in writing, for a first class service."
"I just wanted to let you know about an assistant at your branch off M62 called Eddie - he was one of the best shop advisors I have ever come across. He was patient, understanding, knowledgeable and just an all round nice guy. Please pass on my thanks to him and let his boss know how brilliant he is - he will remember us - we were the ones buying ski boots and we were in your shop about 5 hours last week!"
