Ellis Brigham Staff Training 19th & 20th June 2007 Beudy Mawr, Nant Peris, Wales An Introduction to the use of Garmin GPS Walking Systems The aim of the training was to come away with a working knowledge of the Garmin GPS Systems, to enable us to competently advise our customers on the models Ellis Brigham sell. We began the training by being taken through the different models that Garmin produce and their various operating systems. We also went through the numerous functions the software can perform. Before our walk began we set all the models and put in way points each time we stopped to ensure all our information was accurate. As we went through our walk we were given further information and the following morning our data was inputted onto a laptop with the memory map software installed to see our routes and how we could manipulate the data. This was a very informative couple of days and it was great to receive input on something I had little knowledge on. In addition to the main training we also tested Waterproof Clothing (The North Face), Footwear (Salomon) and Rucksacks (Berghaus). The Salomon Mega Trek 6 boots rose easily to the challenge of Tryfan and were dry, comfortable, and protective. The waterproofs by The North Face were up to their usual high standards. Some say just as important as product knowledge is meeting up with your Ellis Brigham colleagues from around the country, Very valuable if like me you are making requests for stock on a regular basis, so it was very pleasant to meet the people at the other end of the telephone line. Our Group were; Simon and Jan (The North Face, Manchester), Ranya and Eva (Tower House), Chris (Kensington High Street) and Mark (Manchester) and myself (Mail Order Team). Last, but by no means least, ‘Thank You’ to Nigel and Brian, our instructors (an absolute fountain of knowledge) whose reputation for a superb evening meal is well deserved. All in all a very enjoyable, productive and successful trip! Jane, Mail Order
