Dirty Weekend

On Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 July Traquair Estate, in the Scottish Borders, will be transformed into a bustling adventure hub as the Dirty Weekend Event Village opens for business. The grounds surrounding Traquair House will host stalls, demonstrations, live bands and a real ale bar and with over 500 multi-sport athletes starting and finishing a series of endurance events from the central arena the action won't end there.
Back at base the event village will see a hustle and bustle of activity as spectators enjoy Landrover demonstrations (on rugged terrain where they should be!), mountain bike skills demos, biking workshops, a climbing tower, sheepdog trials and a host of kids' activities.
Visitors keen to avoid too much exertion can take a tour of Traquair House, buy local crafts available on site, enjoy some famous Traquair Ale and enjoy the live bands later in the evening. Should the activities prove two distracting the Dirty Weekend MC will play town crier filling everyone in on race updates out on the course as the competition unfolds.
Before all this fun and excitement goes to our heads let's not forget about the athletes! Last minute supplies and discounted kit can be bought at the Ellis Brigham gear shop and Rat Race Shop. Riders and runners are further catered for at The Dirty Weekend Workshop area. Bikes can be serviced and washed; there'll be advice and coaching sessions on map-work, rope-work and kayaking and most importantly a team of masseurs will be on hand to restore and repair weary competitors.
Budding adventurers still have time to sign up as entries for all three Dirty Weekend events are still open. Mountain bike riders can take on the challenging mountain bike orienteering course in the Polaris Challenge, adventure racers can test their mettle in the ACE Race and the trails and tribulations of Traquair and the Tweed Valley are still open to runners keen to tackle the 12KM Dirty Dozen course. Full entry details are available on the website: www.dirtyweekendadventure.com or by calling Detail Events on 0845 009 4365.
Alongside the adventure action in the mountains of the Tweed Valley and the action in the Dirty Weekend event village, the Land Rover G4 Challenge recruitment team will be on the scout for big time adventurers. The Land Rover G4 Challenge is a global adventure competition with off road driving at its core. It is the journey of a lifetime, a thrill seeker's dream and a real test of body and mind – and it is run to support the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The 18-month programme begins with competitor recruitment in each of the 18 participating nations and culminates in a thrilling three-week off-road driving and multi-sport adventure in the wilds of remote Asia.
