BACKCOUNTRY & SKI TOURING EQUIPMENT
Backcountry and Ski Touring Bindings
The last few seasons have seen a huge growth in bindings designed for going uphill as well as down. There’s a binding with a releasable heel for every skier out there, whether it’s ski touring bindings for hut-to-hut skiing or day trips away from the crowds; maybe it’s backcountry freeride bindings built to get you beyond the lifts and into the untracked descents or where weight and time are everything, possibly even speed ski touring bindings.
We’ve got it all covered at Ellis Brigham with touring and backcountry ski bindings from Dynafit, Marker, Salomon and Atomic. Wherever and however you get your backcountry skiing kicks, we’ve got an option for you.
Backcountry and Ski Touring Boots
It was only 10 years ago that ski touring boots offered little in the way of choice in fit, function and performance. The explosion of interest in getting away from the pistes has changed that dramatically.
There are now boots for every conceivable type of skiing beyond the marked runs. Freeride alpine boots like the new Atomic Trackers or Salomon Quest Max with walk modes to get you that bit further than the lift without sacrificing piste precision or the all-mountain performance. Backcountry freeride boots that hike just as well as they ski, getting you far away from the crowds and still delivering the performance necessary to rip down chutes, gullies and faces. Classic ski touring boots with a modern twist like the ScarpaMaestrale and its fresh RS version or the brand new Dynafit Ones, these are boots with impressive comfort, foot hold and performance, all in a super-light package.
Sidecountry, backcountry, freeriding, hut-to-hut tours, simple hikes or day long tours, whatever it is you do we have a boot in our range for you.
Backcountry and Ski Touring Skis
Ski touring skis used to be skinny, straight and light. This was fine going uphill but wasn’t always fun downhill and often meant their construction was compromised. Ski design has come a long way in 15 years, alpine skiing may have been the driving force but skis designed to get you away from groomed trails and further in to the mountains have benefitted massively too.
Our range covers many different variations of ski touring skis and backcountry skis. The K2 BackUp is the ideal alpine touring ski for anyone who wants grip and solidity as well as light weight, in fact, it’s a perfect ski for Scottish backcountry aficionados. Where kilos become the key factor and lightweight touring skis become essential, we’d suggest the DynafitMustagh Ata Superlight, ideal for single ascents, multi-day trips and even grand climbs. The Scott Crus’Air is different again, using carbon-fibre to limit weight and boost performance; it’s powerful and big enough to tackle any descent whilst staying light enough to get you there with energy to enjoy the downhill. And if that wasn’t enough, we’ve a whole range of backcountry powder skis and off-piste skis, from mid-fats like the Atomic Alibi to massive fat skis like the VolklShiro and Whitedot Redeemer.
